In an interview just before her shocking overdose, Chanelle revealed what made her suicidal
Sunday, 9 August 2009
Now interviewed Chanelle Hayes just before she took an overdose of painkillers last week.
In our exclusive feature, the former Big Brother contestant reveals how her body insecurities have brought her to the brink of suicide already this year.
'I went away in January last year and there was a picture of my bum in a magazine saying, "Curvy Girls Hit The Beach". That was it. I wanted to kill myself,' Chanelle, 21, explains.
'I started taking laxatives and wouldn’t eat anything.
'Men always say: “I don’t like skinny girls” but every time someone cheats on me it’s been with someone thinner than me.
'I think they are lying to my face. I lost half a stone because of swine flu and my boyfriend Matt [Middlesbrough footballer Matt Bates] told me how great I looked.'
Chanelle was taken to Pinderfields General Hospital near her home in Wakefield, West Yorks on 6 August, after reportedly downing paracetemol and red wine.
Her agent says in a statement: 'Chanelle is a very sensitive girl who wears her heart on her sleeve, she has been experiencing some personal problems with a relationship and obviously struggled to cope'.
