Boy George: Elton John sent me a music player in jail

Singer also offered him his love and support

Boy George offended Sir Elton John when he called him a humourless grand old dame

Boy George says Sir Elton John helped him get through his spell in jail.

The Culture Club singer, real name George O’Dowd, was freed from Edmunds Hill Prison in May.

He served four months for falsely imprisoning a male escort.

‘Elton offered me love and support from both himself and David [Furnish],' says George. 'He also sent me a lovely music player.

'Stephen Fry, Matt Lucas, Antony Hegarty and Holly Johnson wrote to me too.

‘I did have a falling out with Elton a few years ago because I was being a bitch but we made up and we’re really good friends again.'

George now wears an electronic tag and has a 7pm curfew.

‘In the past year I’ve become more aware of how lucky I am,’ he tells the Sunday Express. ‘I have a great life.

‘Prison is as bad as you want it to be but you just get on with it. In a way, it was quite nice to have a routine!’
