As Kerry prepares for yet another dramatic overhaul, we ask: are the risks worth it?
Wednesday, 29 July 2009
Once again Kerry Katona is causing a stir about her weight.
The 28-year-old stepped out last week wearing skinny jeans and a green vest top, revealing a decidedly flatter stomach and slimmer arms. Her recent 7lb weight loss could be seen particularly around her face, which looked noticeably less bloated.
It’s a far cry from the Kerry we saw in June, throwing back beer and stuffing her face on holiday in Magaluf, Spain. The 5ft 3in star’s vowed to return to the rigorous diet and exercise regime that helped her lose a massive 4st in January. Thanks to this – and £15,000 of lipo – Kerry managed to drop from 12st to just 8st in a few months.
Now, the 11½st star is working out regularly with personal trainer Scott Wright, while following a low-calorie diet to get back to a tiny size 8.
‘I don’t know how it happened – I’m so fat!’ says Kerry. ‘I ate like a pig on holiday! I want to lose it again, though, so I’ve booked some fitness sessions with Scott.’
If Kerry succeeds with her mission, it’ll mean her weight has fluctuated by a total of 8st in the past eight months. But what is her crazy yo-yo dieting doing to her health? As everyone knows, being over- or underweight is never good, but regularly fluctuating by 10lb or more can have serious health implications – and sometimes prove fatal.
‘Although I’ve never treated her personally, my concerns are with the heart,’ says celebrity nutritionist Professor Adam Carey Adam. ‘Nutrient deficiency can cause electrolyte imbalances which have been linked to high blood pressure and cardio problems.’
