Ingrid Tarrant was convicted of resisting arrest yesterday.
Chris Tarrant’s ex-wife was taken into custody on Christmas Eve in Cobham, Surrey, after driving off while an officer tried to issue her with a parking ticket.
PC Peter Groves told Staines Magistrates’ Court he pursued Ingrid, 54, for two miles before she stopped and had to be wrestled to the ground.
‘I was not sure why the whole incident had taken place at all over the minor parking matter,’ he said. ‘I did not know what I was dealing with.
‘I was concerned that the car was stolen or the person had been drinking or if there were mental health issues. I was getting no response.’
Ingrid has also been convicted on three other charges – illegally parking on a bus stop, failing to stop for police and obstructing an officer.
She has been ordered to pay a £2,700 fine and £1,200 costs.
‘PC Groves had every right to complete his inquiries, and we find he was obstructed in doing so,’ said Judge Terence Davies. ‘PC Groves had reasonable grounds to arrest Mrs Tarrant.’
