Madonna has paid tribute to two technicians who died while erecting a stage for her concert.
The men were killed as they were setting up a temporary roof at the Stade Velodrome venue in Marseilles, France, ahead of the singer’s gig on Sunday.
Five other workers were injured when the partially-built set collapsed.
‘I am devastated to have just received this tragic news,’ reads a statement from Madonna, 50, who was in Italy at the time.
‘My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families, along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.’
Madonna, who has now cancelled Sunday’s concert, interrupted her gig to remember the men at her Sticky & Sweet gig last night.
‘I ask you for a moment to stop and think of the people who lost their lives,’ she said. ‘We need to appreciate life, the people we love and out families.’
