Britains Got Talent star wants his music to touch people
Friday, 10 July 2009
Shaheen Jafargholi would love to become the next Michael Jackson.
The Britain’s Got Talent finalist performed Jackson 5 hit Who’s Lovin You? at the star’s memorial at LA’s Stapels Centre on Tuesday.
Shaheen, 12, says the experience has inspired him.
‘I was quite nervous,’ he says. ‘He was lying there in front of me, his family were there. I had to do him proud. I was there because he was a fan of mine so I had to be on top form.
‘Now I want to do what Michael Jackson did and touch people with my music. Work hard and you never know.’
Shaheen admits it was strange performing near Michael’s coffin.
‘I mainly kept my eyes shut as I was singing,’ he says. ‘Now and again I would look at him and think, “There’s Michael”. It was quite strange. It was almost as if I was singing for him.
‘It was really tough, but I got to say goodbye and pay my respects in a way that no other person could.’
Mentor Simon Cowell, 49, adds: ‘He did brilliantly.’
