Singer says she was overcome with emotion
Thursday, 9 July 2009
Mariah Carey has apologised for choking during the opening line of her song at Michael Jackson’s LA memorial on Tuesday.
The singer, who performed Jackson 5 hit I’ll Be There at the Stapels Centre service, says she struggled to control her emotions when she saw his coffin.
‘Trying to sing was basically impossible for me,’ Mariah, 39, writes on Twitter. ‘I could barely keep myself from crying.
'I'm sorry that I wasn't able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him there in front of me.’
Mariah feels she'll never really have to say goodbye to Michael.
‘His legacy lives on through his music and the millions of people,’ she adds.
