Lil Wayne lawyer wants sniffer dog's training file

Attorney wants to determine if mutt is reliable

Lil Wayne’s lawyer has asked to see a sniffer dog's record in a bid to clear the rapper’s name over drugs charges.

The hip hop star, 26, was arrested in Arizona in January 2008 when police allegedly found cocaine, ecstasy and a handgun on his tour bus.

At a pre-trial hearing, his attorney James Tilson said his request to see the training record of the sniffer dog used by border police had been rejected.

‘If the dog is not reliable, then that puts the entire probable cause for the stop into question,’ he told the court in Yuma County, Arizona.

Lil Wayne, real name Dwayne Carter, denies one count of possessing dangerous drugs, one of possessing drugs paraphernalia and one of weapons misconduct.

He is due back in court on 11 August.
