Madonna 'ecstatic' over Mercy James adoption

Singer's family can't wait to take her home

Madonna divorced Guy Ritchie in 2008

Madonna is thrilled she won her appeal to adopt three-year-old Mercy James from Malawi.

The singer was initially turned down in April as she'd not been a resident of the African country for 18 months.

But last week, the decision was overturned.

‘I am extremely grateful for the Supreme Court's ruling on my application to adopt Mercy James,’ Madonna said through her spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg.

‘I am ecstatic. My family and I look forward to sharing our lives with her.’
 
Madonna, 50, is expected to move Mercy to her New York home this week.

She has daughter Lourdes, 12, with her ex Carlos Leon, and sons Rocco, 8, and adopted David Banda, 3, with ex-husband Guy Ritchie, 40.
