Christian Bale: I chopped off my finger

Terminator actor almost lost digit in bike accident

Christian Bale is willing to go through a lot of pain for his film roles

Christian Bale nearly parted ways with his left index finger recently.

Luckily, doctors were able to reattach the Terminator Salvation star's digit.

'I had a dirt-biking mishap and chopped it off,' says Christian. 'I severed it - it was off.

'It's now full of stitches and metal pins. It's sort of interesting. I am becoming a Terminator. Adding little bits of metal to my skeleton.'

Christian, 35, is renowned for really getting into his character roles and admits he's willing to put himself through anything for the right part.

'I feel like I've worked if I bleed, you know?' he tells The Sunday Times.

'I remember some story I heard about Jimi Hendrix just playing his guitar until his fingers were bleeding and I loved that image of somebody who just ignored pain because he loved what he was doing so much. I didn't get into this for the creature comforts.'

Terminator Salvation is released in the UK on 3 June.
