Mia Farrow has ended her hunger strike after 12 days.
The actress, 64, was protesting against the Sudanese government's decision to expel foreign aid agencies in war-torn Darfur.
But she was advised to quit the 21-day fast when her blood sugar levels dropped to a dangerous level.
‘I have been instructed by my doctor to stop my fast immediately due to health concerns - including possible seizures,’ she says in a video blog on her official site.
‘I am fortunate. The women, children, and men I am fasting for do not have this option.’
Entrepreneur Richard Branson has now stepped in to help.
‘I’m honoured to be taking over the fast for the next three days from Mia Farrow in her courageous stance to support the people of Darfur,’ he said in a statement.
‘We all need to stand up and demand that international aid is restored and that the people of Darfur are protected and given the chance to live in peace.’
