Last week Cheryl Cole announced she plans to take a break from Girls Aloud this year to focus on her solo career.
Many immediately assumed that a relocation to the States was on the cards – with Simon Cowell planning a US version of The X Factor, it seemed natural he’d take Cheryl with him.
But the star’s told friends she intends to stay in the UK – and this has husband Ashley Cole, 28, breathing a huge sigh of relief.
‘Ashley’s delighted that Cheryl’s given up any plans to rival Victoria Beckham in the US,’ a source tells Now. ‘He wants them to try for children as soon as possible.’
Electropop star Frankmusik, who’s previously remixed tracks for Keane and Pet Shop Boys, is reportedly on board to help produce Cheryl’s solo album, which she’ll begin working on this summer.
Cheryl's solo dreams
Since her guest spot on Will.i.am's single Heartbreaker hit No 4 in the UK last year, it's only been a matter of time before Cheryl storms the charts as a solo artist.
With plans to record her solo album now set for the summer, Cheryl's first single release is likely to be timed after the X Factor finale, when her profile is sky high.
