Model shows solidarity for designer pal Azzedine Alaia
Wednesday, 6 May 2009
Naomi Campbell didn't attend a high-profile fashion party on Monday – because her friend was omitted from the guest list.
Designer Azzedine Alaia's work wasn't showcased at the Costume Institute's Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum Of Art.
So in a show of solidarity, Naomi, 38, pulled out despite having paid a reported £66,000 for a table.
'Naomi, having supported this gala event for many years, planned to attend this year and even purchased a table,’ Naomi's spokesperson tells Metro.
‘However, she does not wish to be disloyal to Alaia, who considers Naomi as his daughter.
‘She instead offered newcomer Sessilee Lopez the opportunity to attend and sit at her table alongside fashion advocate Bethann Hardison.
'The supermodel continues to support the event
and champion those who would not have been been able to attend the gala
and who are making a difference in the fashion industry.'
