Star won't perform in the United Arab Emirates in May

Rihanna smiles as she makes her first public appearance since February

Rihanna has scrapped plans to stage her comeback gig on 28 May.

The singer's concert was due to take place in the United Arab Emirates.

‘We want to share with you that Rihanna and her management will not be accepting to hold a public concert at this time as it is not appropriate timing for her,’ Yassin Matbouly, the organiser of the event, says in a statement.

‘This is very sad for us at this time knowing the concert will not happen, but we will not give up and we will continue to put our offer to Rihanna's management for a future date.’

Rihanna's ex Chris Brown, 19, is due back in court on 28 May.

Meanwhile, Rihanna, 21, made her first public outing at the Costume Institute Gala in New York last night.

Wearing a smart suit and bow tie, she skipped the press line but seemed happy to pose for snaps.
