EastEnders star reveals she started taking cocaine as a young teen
Sunday, 10 May 2009
Patsy Palmer has spoken out about her ongoing battle with drugs.
The EastEnders actress, 36, started taking cocaine and sniffing solvents when she was just 13.
‘I’m an addict,’ she says bluntly. 'I have it in my genes, but the thing was I didn’t know how to deal with it back then.
‘To be honest, working on EastEnders saved my life. I’d hate to think what would have happened to me if I hadn’t got that break as Bianca.’
Patsy landed the role 16 years ago - but she was still taking drugs.
‘I don’t know how I survived,' she tells Fabulous. 'It was the producer who first sent me away to get help when she realised things were getting out of control. I was basically having a nervous breakdown.'
Patsy has been sober since September 2004.
