Simon Amstell is leaving BBC2 show Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

The comedian, 29, has won an army of fans since he replaced Mark Lamarr in 2006.

'Simon is a funny guy who can think on his feet,' a source tells The Sun. 'But he has decided it is time to move on.

'He has completely revitalised the show and we will be sad to see him go.

Simon famously made Ordinary Boys singer Preston storm off the show following jibes about his then-wife Chantelle Houghton.

It's thought bosses will replace Simon with a rolling rota of celebrity guest presenters.

A BBC spokesman confirmed Simon had quit the show.
