Russell Brand returned to the air yesterday – and ended up leaving a joke answerphone message for Barack Obama.

The comedian quit his Radio 2 show in October after being criticised for making prank calls to actor Andrew Sachs.

But during his new talkSPORT slot with Oasis pal Noel Gallagher, 41, he proved that he’s still as cheeky as ever.

Russell, 33, rang the White House while on air to try to ask US President Barack, 47, if he supports West Ham football team.

‘Dear Barack Obama, we are calling you to find out if you are in fact the world’s most famous West Ham supporter, as it’s claimed,’ he said on the voicemail.

‘I haven’t ever seen you at Upton Park. And what formation do you suggest [manager] Gianfranco Zola plays?’

Russell also spoke to Jonathan Ross, 48, who joined him last year in making the prank calls to Andrew Sachs.

‘You’re not back on the radio, are you?’ said Jonathan. ‘I think Noel should be an adjudicator to make sure we don’t go off limits. He can be the grown-up one.’
