Rihanna's really feeling the pressure
Thursday, 16 April 2009
She may have been drowning her sorrows as Chris Brown’s court case looms, but the moment Rihanna’s been dreading has arrived.
While the 21-year-old star desperately wants to avoid having to face the man she loved in a courtroom, the pressure’s growing for her to testify.
Chris, 19, is accused of beating her on 8 February. He entered a not guilty plea in the LA courtroom last Monday, watched by his tearful mother and Rihanna’s lawyer, but not the singer herself.
Lawyer Donald Etra says: ‘Nothing’s changed with regard to Rihanna’s stance toward this case. She will testify if subpoenaed and will do everything that’s required of her.’
But that’s the scenario Rihanna fears most.
‘She’s been warned that if she’s seen to support Chris, she’ll lose public sympathy,’ a friend explains. ‘But it’ll be tough for her if she has to give evidence.
'She has to cooperate with the courts, but if she says Chris did beat her it’ll finally be over between them in the most public way. It’s crunch time.’
