Madonna struggles to sleep

The Material Girl deeply disappointed by adoption failure

Madonna wanted Mercy James as a sister for Lourdes, Roco and David

Madonna's failed attempt to adopt four-year-old Mercy James from Malawi was very public proof that things aren't going all Her Madgesty's way at all.

Ex-husband Guy Ritchie, 40, gave his backing to his ex-wife adoption plan, calling her a ‘fantastic and loving mum’, but it wasn't to be.

Sick of her rudeness and mood swings, her staff are quitting and in the space of a few weeks, she’s lost two nannies and two PAs.

‘Madonna’s not doing herself any favours with her recent strange behaviour,' a source tells Now. 'She’s suffering from anxiety. She can’t even be bothered to wash her hair most days.'

In the last two weeks, Madonna’s been upping her exercise regime, even having a treadmill specially flown to Malawi while she was trying to adopt Mercy.

But it’s her mental strength that’s worrying friends, including Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney. Our source says: ‘She’s embarked on an even crazier health regime, but the stress means she’s going to bed later and is really struggling to sleep.’
