Couple asks for privacy during difficult time

Mel Gibson and Robyn Moore have been married for 28 years

Mel Gibson's wife has filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage.

Robyn Moore, 53, has cited irreconcilable differences as the reason in court papers.

‘Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so,’ reads a statement issued by the couple.

Mel, 53, and Robyn, are rumoured to have separated in August 2006.

They are parents to Hannah, 28, twins Edward and Christian, 26, William, 24, Louis, 21, Milo, 19, and Thomas, 9.

Robyn is seeking joint custody of their youngest child.
