On-screen couple to be written out of the BBC soap

Kara Tointon and Ricky Groves play on/off couple Dawn and Garry in EastEnders

Kara Tointon and Ricky Groves will exit EastEnders in a dramatic storyline this summer.

The pair, who play on-screen couple Dawn Swann and Garry Hobbs, are being written out of the BBC soap.

'Viewers will have to wait and see if there is a happy ending,' says an insider.

Kara joined the soap in 2005 while Ricky has played mechanic Garry for nine years.

'It has been the best four years of my life,' Kara says. 'I will always hold the show dear to my heart and be an avid fan.'

Ricky adds: 'It has been wonderful playing Garry. But I am looking forward to new things.'
