When Kerry Katona finally booted out her husband Mark Croft two weeks ago, the world celebrated.
Kerry accused her other half of scrounging from her and drafted in financial expert to the stars Frank Cochran to investigate her finances – but less than a week later, Mark was back in her house and she halted the investigations.
Now can reveal that Kerry, 28, caved in after Mark, 38, persuaded her he had nowhere to go and used his controlling tactics to convince her he was innocent.
A source tells us: ‘Kerry had vowed to find out what happened to the £100,000 that was unaccounted for,’ a source tells us. ‘If she’d had that money months ago, it could’ve saved her from bankruptcy.
‘She said to Mark: “If you’ve squirrelled away my money, that’s it, you can leave. I’ll get it back – I’ll go to court and fight for it.” He was adamant he’d done nothing wrong, but she said: “Stop lying to me, Mark.” We thought she’d finally had enough and it was all over.’
But Mark pointed out that she had no money to instruct lawyers. Insiders say he’d bragged to friends that he’d get round her – and when she put a stop to the financial enquiries, it seemed he’d won.
‘Kerry’s so insecure that she can’t imagine life without Mark. He’s chipped away at her confidence. She’s terrified of being left alone with four kids and two failed marriages behind her and wants to be told that everything’s fine.’
