Chris Tarrant: Row that led to arrest was tipsy tiff

TV presenter doesn't know who called police

Chris Tarrant says he didn't hit his girlfriend during a drunken argument.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host was arrested on suspicion of assaulting Jane Bird, 46, at his Surrey home on March 5.

But Chris, 62, who was released without charge after questioning, insists the pair had a lovers' tiff following a Tina Turner concert at London’s O2.

‘We were both a bit tipsy,’ he says. 'We had a row like any other couple. It happens. It was about nothing in particular.

‘Absolutely nothing physical happened and I didn’t push her out of the front door — it was as simple as that.

'I don’t know who called the police. I don’t know what I was arrested for.’

Chris, who has been with Jane since 2007, was freed after spending two hours at a station in Staines, Middlesex.
