Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nuñez are voted off the show
Friday, 13 March 2009
The first two contestants have been voted off American Idol.
Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nuñez lost out in the public vote after their Michael Jackson songs failed to impress. Both were booted out in the first round because there were 13 finalists this year instead of a dozen.
Host Ryan Seacrest also introduced a new twist to the show – judges can save one evicted contestant throughout the series.
Jasmine, 17 and Jorge, 20, sang their numbers again in the hope of being given another chance – only for Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson to reject them.
When the judges do decide to save a contestant, two will leave the show the following week.
Kelly Clarkson and Kanye West both performed on the eviction show.
