Formula 1 ace collects accolade at Buckingham Palace
Wednesday, 11 March 2009
Lewis Hamilton was awarded an MBE by The Queen yesterday.
The 24-year-old was honoured for becoming the youngest ever Formula 1 champion.
Lewis admits he was overjoyed to meet Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace.
‘It was one of the most overwhelming experiences I’ve ever had,’ he tells the Daily Star. ‘I’m kind of lost for words.
‘I was so nervous to meet her. I don’t think you realise until you stand in front of her how special it is.’
Lewis was joined by his dad Anthony, brother Nicholas and stepmum Linda for the ceremony.
But girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger, 30, was unable to attend because she is on tour with the Pussycat Dolls.
