Girls Aloud star and her showbiz pals have raised £1.4m for charity
Saturday, 7 March 2009
Cheryl Cole was one of the first celebrity climbers to arrive at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro today. The peak of Africa's tallest mountain is 19,300ft (5,900m) high.
'Guided by the moon throughout the freezing night, they reached the summit at varying stages from 4am this morning led by Ben Shephard,' the Comic Relief blog reveals.
Ben, Fearne Cotton, Denise Van Outen and Cheryl were soon joined by Kimberley Walsh, Ronan Keating and Gary Barlow - and then Chris Moyles.
Alesha Dixon, suffering severe muscle pain, arrived a gruelling 2 hours after the others collapsing in a heap.
The charity challenge - which has raised nearly £1.4m - pushed the showbiz stars to the limit and they've had to overcome injury, vertigo and acute altitude sickness.
They now face the 12-15 hour descent.

I would just like to say congratulations to all of the celebrities who took part in this challenge. It is not often that you see celebrities taking on such a gruelling challenge as this. Well done!
A huge well done to all the celebs!! I did this trek last year and did not make it to the summit due to severe altitude sickness so I know how very very tough it is, especially final night trek to the summit...so good on them!!
Congratulations to all the celebrities for making it. What a shame the headline says Cheryl Cole and her show biz pals raised the money. What you fail to mention is that the vast majority has been raised by Radio 1 listeners and listeners of the Chris Moyles show in particular. You havent even provided a link on his name. How about singing Chris Moyles praises instead of Cheryl Cole or isnt he glam enough?
