Reese Witherspoon: Divorce was humiliating and isolating

Actress reflects on her break-up with Ryan Phillippe

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have remained friends

Reese Witherspoon has opened up about her split from ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

The couple divorced in 2006, after nine years together.

‘[It was] very humiliating and very isolating,’ she admits.

‘But, by the way, if it’s not painful, maybe it wasn’t the right decision to marry to begin with. Those are the appropriate emotions.’

And Reese, who has Ava, 9, and Deacon, 5, with Ryan, 34, says it took her a long time to get over it.

‘When people get in your face and say, “This will pass,” you think, “Are they crazy? I’m never gonna feel any better than I feel right this minute and nothing’s ever gonna make sense again,”’ she tells the April issue of Elle magazine.

‘I still have moments where I’m like, “Nothing’s ever gonna make sense again.”’

Reese, 32, is now dating Jake Gyllenhaal, who she describes as ‘a really fantastic guy’.
