The football star's told wife Cheryl he wants them to start a family

Cheryl Cole ihas conquered Mount Kilimanjaro

As Cheryl Cole prepared for her daunting trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro last week, she and her husband had a heart-to-heart about their future.

Ashley Cole, 28, accompanied Cheryl, 25, to the Brits and the loved-up pair then spent the weekend together.

A source tells Now: ‘They drank champagne and ate sushi. They’re so close at the moment – probably the closest they’ve been since all the revelations about his infidelity at the beginning of last year.

‘Ashley told Cheryl he wants her to be pregnant by Christmas because they’ve bought a new house to have a family in. They want their home to be filled with happiness as well as the sound of children’s laughter.

‘Cheryl’s agreed to it, but she’ll have to balance that with the Girls Aloud tour and her career prospects in the US. She admits there’s just been too much going on for her to be broody right now, but she loves the idea of making the new house into a proper home with kids.’

Chelsea star Ashley getting arrested for being drunk and disorderly on 5 March while Cheryl was taking part in her Comic Relief challenge can't have thrilled the singer, but their marriage is strong enough to survive this little blip.

• Five-a-side football pitch
