The star breaks down on the streets of New York
Monday, 9 March 2009
Katie Holmes is used to being stared at, but in New York last week she was drawing even more attention than usual.
Sobbing openly and clutching her hand to her mouth, the 30-year-old looked grief-stricken. So what caused her outburst? Are she and hubby Tom Cruise, 46, experiencing marital woes?
Luckily, the actress was just filming scenes for her new comedy The Extra Man. Braving the New York chill in a dowdy checked coat, brown boots and grey bucket hat, Katie worked through the emotional scene with her co-star, Paul Dano from Little Miss Sunshine.
Despite the freezing cold, when the cameras weren’t rolling dedicated Katie stayed on set to study the script and read over her lines. The film, due out next year, is thought to centre on a failed playwright – played by Kevin Kline – who has to work as an escort for rich New York widows.
There’s certainly been no break in busy Katie’s jam-packed schedule. After finishing her run in the Broadway production of All My Sons in January, she went straight into working on The Extra Man – she and Tom were even forced to skip the Oscars because of her busy work commitments.
Who knows, maybe Katie’s waterworks will lead to the star winning an Oscar of her own, leaving husband Tom – three times nominated, but never a winner – as the one blubbing.
