Singer wants reunion
Sunday, 8 March 2009
Pete Doherty is desperate to be reconciled with his dad.
The Babyshambles frontman was disowned by his father, army major Peter, in 2005 over his drug addiction.
But Pete, 29, insists he's continuing to try and sort himself out.
‘I'm mostly clean, I won't lie to you it is a struggle,’ he says. ‘My dad and I are estranged. In his mind if I’m still using in any way then I’m not his son. But my mum speaks to me secretly.
‘I try and wrap myself up enough so that it doesn’t get to me and I don’t feel anything but really of course it gets to me. I love the man and I grew up kind of idolising him.
‘It’s breaking my heart.’
Pete and Peter mended their relationship in 2007 after the musician's stint in rehab – but they fell out when he relapsed.
‘I’d love to just go to football with him like we used to,’ Pete tells the Daily Express, 'or just go for a drink.'
