An exhausted Gary Barlow is finding it tough on the celebrity Comic Relief charity challenge in Tanzania.
The Take That star injured his back during training for the 19,000ft hike up Mount Kilimanjaro and has still not fully recovered.
After the 4-hour first day hike, Gary, 38, 'collapsed in a heap'.
‘He was in a great deal of pain but everyone rallied around to get him through it,’ says a source. ‘It has a hellish experience especially with the steep incline but Gazza refused to give up. It really was a baptism of fire to say the least.’
Cheryl Cole, 25, Kimberley Walsh, 27, and Fearne Cotton, 26, took it in turns to carry Gary’s rucksack for him.
‘He is determined not to let his back beat him,’ a Comic Relief spokesperson tells the Daily Mirror.
Ben Shephard, 34, Denise Van Outen, 34, Ronan Keating, 31, Alesha Dixon, 30 and Chris Moyles, 35, are also taking part.
