Joaquin Phoenix has grown a beard

Joaquin Phoenix’s rep has rubbished a suggestion that the actor is mentally ill.

Psychiatrist Paul Dobransky is concerned that Joaquin, 34, might be schizophrenic because of his recent appearance and behaviour.

The Hollywood star has also announced his retirement from acting to pursue a rap career.

But Joaquin's spokesperson says Mr Dobransky's opinion has no validity.

‘How absolutely inappropriate for a doctor who has no personal interaction or relationship with someone to diagnose them,’ he tells MTV News.
