Matt Smith will be paid £1million over the next five years to play Doctor Who, it's been reported.

The actor is said to have signed a £200,000-a-series deal.

The contract ties him to the show for three years – with the option of two more after that.

‘Bosses don’t want him doing a David Tennant and leaving when things are going great,’ a source tells The Sun.

Matt, 26, will replace current Time Lord David, 37, at the end of the year.

'All new deals are done with the economic climate in mind,' adds a BBC spokesperson.
