Katie Holmes: People think I'm not in control of my life

Actress insists she's a very strong woman

Katie Holmes married Tom Cruise in November 2006

Katie Holmes wanted to prove herself when she joined the cast of Broadway show All My Sons.

The actress, 30, who is married to Tom Cruise, worried people would think she got the part because of who she is.

'I didn't want people to think I was just cast for name recognition,' she says.

‘There’s a misconception about me that I just became this wallflower. This woman who doesn’t have any control of her life. That I just became a wife. And that’s pretty wrong.

'From the very beginning, I’ve made choices in my life that have been very strong. When I met Tom, I was completely in love and, yes, I admired him growing up – he’s Tom Cruise!’

The couple have two-year-old daughter Suri together.
