Russell Brand has vowed to help save a drug addiction clinic from closing down.

The comedian wants to raise £60,000 for the Focus12 rehab centre, where he was treated for heroin abuse in 2002.

The organisation, based in Suffolk, is said to be struggling to cover its running costs due to government funding cuts, reports The Sun.

Russell, who is a patron for Focus12, wants to hold fundraising events to help out.

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old admits he still attends rehab meetings at least 3 times a week.

'I find it necessary,' he tells GQ. 'I'm just another bod, all my hard-earned individuality meaningless. I still miss it. For 4 years my life was defined by heroin.

'Consistent with most drug addicts, the only reason I stopped is because I had to. In the end, I realised I was not going to be successful if I was taking drugs.'
