Heath Ledger’s family ‘so proud’ of Oscar nomination

Actor's half sister excited about awards nod

Heath Ledger has two-year-old daughter Matilda with ex Michelle Williams

Heath Ledger‘s family have paid tribute to the star following his Oscar nomination.

The late actor is up for Best Actor In A Supporting Role for his portrayal as The Joker in Batman film The Dark Knight.

‘Although we would love to have him here with us, we are so proud and so excited on his behalf,’ says his half sister Ashleigh.

‘We will take this opportunity today to honour his wonderful life and take comfort in knowing Heath will continue to touch future generations through this amazing art form.’

Heath’s older sibling Kate admits dealing with his death remains a struggle.

‘We are still all nursing broken hearts,’ she tells People.

‘Like anyone who loses a family member, it has opened our eyes to the intense suffering and painful journey that is death.’

Heath died on the 28 January 2008 after an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.
