Singer sent down for attacking male escort
Friday, 16 January 2009
Boy George has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for falsely imprisoning a male escort at his home in Shoreditch, east London.
The singer, real name George O’Dowd, was found guilty of handcuffing Audun Carlsen to his bedroom wall and thrashing him with a metal chain last April.
George, 46, had accused the 29-year-old Norwegian of stealing photos from his laptop.
Judge David Radford told the star he was guilty of ‘gratuitous violence’ and ordered him to pay £5,000 in costs.
According to George's brother, the former Culture Club member wouldn't give evidence during his trial to spare his 70-year-old mum Dinah O'Dowd from being embarrassed.
