Simon Cowell took his axe-polishing very seriously

Simon Cowell's half-brother Tony has revealed that Simon started out in showbiz as a runner at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire.

The multi-millionaire. 49, once earnt his living sort out props and had to polish Jack Nicholson’s infamous axe in 1980 film The Shining.

‘I remember him saying he used to clean Jack Nicholson’s axe between takes for the most famous scenes,’ Tony tells The Sun.

‘It’s a far cry from where he is now. I think the only thing he shines these days are his teeth.’
