Anti-fur protestors angry with opera singer for promoting store
Saturday, 27 December 2008
Singer Katherine Jenkins arrived by horse-drawn carriage to open the 2008 Harrods Christmas sale today and was heckled by anti-fur protestors yelling 'Shame on Harrods'.
Leona Lewis is reported to have turned the job down because Harrods stocks fur coats.
'Personally I do not eat meat or wear fur, but people are entitled to their opinions,' Katherine, 28, told BBC reporters.
Owner Mohamed Al Fayed ushered his guest - who was also cheered by music fans - inside the Knightsbridge store.
Over 400 anti-fur campaigners from the Coalition To Abolish The Fur Trade also protested outside top stores Gucci, Escada, Versace, Fendi, Joseph and Armani.

It's totally irrelevant that Katherine Jenkins doesn't eat meat or wear fur, the fact is she is PROMOTING a shop that does still sell fur and this is wrong. If I were her I would not want to be associated with Harrods at all. I urge people who disagree with this statement to watch an animal being skinned alive (google videos/youtube) THEN you will understand why those protestors were outside Harrods.
