Reese Witherspoon: I'd never held a baby until I had kids

Actress had no experience with children

Reese Witherspoon is dating Brokeback Mountain actor Jake Gyllenhaal

Reese Witherspoon was worried about becoming a mum.

The actress, 32, has daughter Ava, 9, and son Deacon, 5, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

But until they were born, she'd had no contact with children.

‘Before I had kids I’d never even held a baby,’ she says. ‘I’d never babysat. I didn’t have any cousins.

'So the first time I held Ava was the first time I’d ever held a baby in my life!

‘I had that fear of not being a good mum. It took me a long time to feel really comfortable in the role of being a mother.’

Reese split with Ryan, 33, in 2006.
