Katy Perry realises her comment wasn't funny

Katy Perry has admitted that she regrets poking fun at fellow singer Lily Allen.

The I Kissed A Girl star made a jibe about Lily's weight.

But Katy, 24, insists it was meant to be a light-hearted comment.

‘Yeah, I made a joke earlier this year,’ she tells Us Weekly. ‘I was just kind of joking and trying to be funny.

'I didn't mean anything by it. Comedians are not necessarily to be taken super seriously.’

Earlier this week Lily, 23, accused Katy of trying to copy her style.

‘I happen to know that she was an American version of me,’ she tells Capital FM.

‘She was signed by my label in America as “We need to find something controversial and kooky like Lily Allen". And then they found her. I think the lyrics and stuff are a bit crass.

‘When I met her I was bit frosty with her. [When] someone asked her to describe herself she's like: “I'm like a fatter version of Amy Winehouse and a skinner version of Lily Allen.”

'You're not English and you don't write your own songs, shut up!'
