Britney Spears tops US album chart

Circus sells over 500,000 copies in the States

Britney Spears only reached No 4 with her record Circus in the UK album chart

Britney Spears’ latest record has reached No 1 in the US album chart.

Circus has sold more than 500,000 copies since its release last week, putting it firmly at the top of the Billboard 200.

Britney has had the second biggest first week album sales for a female musician in the States this year, just behind teen star Taylor Swift, 18.

‘Imagine a year ago, did anyone think that today she would be able to come out with an album that would not only just debut at No 1, but also do half a million copies in its first week?’ chart manager Keith Caulfield tells E! Online.

‘It's surprising, but at the same time it's got to be pretty satisfying for Britney and for her record label.’
 
Britney, 27, last topped the US album chart with In The Zone in 2003.
