Ben OGrady says autobiography is unfair
Tuesday, 2 December 2008
Paul O'Grady’s new memoirs stretch the truth, according to his brother Ben.
In At My Mother's Knee... And Other Low Joints the comedian claims his mum and aunt didn’t get along with neighbours in Birkenhead, Merseyside, because of their wild lifestyle.
But Ben, 64, insists his younger sibling has misrepresented them.
‘They were very intelligent respectable women who were popular in the neighbourhood,’ he tells the Sunday People.
‘My mum was always reading books and Aunt Chrissy's only vice was cigarettes.
‘He claims to have been a champion boxer but I don't recall him doing any sport, let alone boxing. He couldn't box a kipper!
'He has just concocted a load of fantasies, a lot of them hurtful.’
Paul, 53, was unavailable for comment.
