Glamour model's mum says she was picked on for her looks
Tuesday, 25 November 2008
Nicola McLean's life was made hellish by her classmates, her mum has revealed.
Margaret McLean says her daughter has suffered with her image as a result of the bullying.
‘She became quite self-conscious when she was at primary school and was bullied because she had a bad squint,’ she says.
‘Eventually she had corrective surgery on it, but that meant she had to wear a patch for a while.
'After that the bullying got even worse. The kids started calling her an ugly pirate. I think that’s where her insecurities originally stemmed from.’
Because of the jibes I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Nicola, 26, has also been keen to maintain her slim figure.
‘She’s never had an eating disorder, but she’s the first to admit that she prefers to be slim,' Margaret says. 'She’s conscious of what she eats.’

These stories always come out whenever some "celeb" turns out to be a nasty piece of work. A member of their family, or a friend will, invariably, come out with a 'they were bullied at school' story. It's total rubbish! calling her a pirate for a few weeks is hardly going to traumatise the woman for the rest of her life, is it? I was called names every day, in school; i would imagine most children were. It didn't make me completely, and repulsivly, alter my physical appearance. Neither did it make me want to become a foul mouthed, miserable, no-body, wannabe, 2nd rate celebrity. This woman, just like that other mega-chav, Jordan, wants to become famous for re-shaping herself, surgically, and having a bad attitude. Go out and work for a living. Be a nurse, or a factory worker,etc... That way, when you're stuggling to pay the bills, you'll have earned your whinge. You don't earn it because your Bollinger 67 is too warm. Thankfully, i'm sure, Nicola will go the way of Abi Titmus, and alike. The talentless normally do. And the quicker the better, as far as i'm concerned!
Nicola McClean, was not bullied at school. This is a sympathy story.
