Christopher Ciccone: I knew Madonna’s marriage to Guy Ritchie wouldn’t last

Madonna's brother has admitted he felt her marriage to Guy Ritchie was destined to fail.

Christopher Ciccone believes things would never have worked because the 40-year-old director is so negative.

‘The wedding, the tone of the whole thing, gives you a good idea of where the marriage was going,’ he says.

‘It was very scripted and very unpleasant and very big and I don’t think it was a good beginning. Frankly, I thought it wouldn’t last.

Guy was generally a miserable guy and he got worse. He became less and less happy as a person, I think because his career isn’t where he wants it to be.’

Christopher, 47, reckons 50-year-old Madge’s desire to become a filmmaker also riled Guy.

‘Two directors in the family is never going to work,' he says on a new documentary about the couple. 'Her career continues up whereas his has dropped off.’

Madonna And Guy: Where Did It All Go Wrong? is on Five at 10pm tonight.
