Troubled singer is voted Act Of 2008
Friday, 7 November 2008
Britney Spears was the big winner at last night’s 15th MTV Europe Music Awards.
The singer, 26, who was not at the ceremony at Liverpool's Echo Arena, was named Act Of 2008 and her record Blackout was voted Album Of The Year.
Other winners included Kanye West, 31, in the Ultimate Urban category; Pink’s So What was the Most Addictive Track; and the Artists' Choice Award went to Lil Wayne, 26.
Music veterans were also celebrated - Rick Astley, 42, received the Best Act Ever Award and Sir Paul McCartney walked away with the Ultimate Legend trophy.
Macca, 66, was clearly chuffed to have been at the event in his hometown.
‘I want to thank my mates Ringo Starr, John Lennon and George Harrison,’ he said as he accepted his award from U2 frontman Bono.
‘Many years ago four little boys went on to do quite well. Thanks to everyone.’
But it was host Katy Perry, 24, winner in the New Act category, who stole the show.
She wore 11 different outfits over the evening – including an American Football costume and a frock with new US President Barack Obama's face on the front.
She also donned a merry-go-round shaped dress and a suit and tutu ensemble.
