Katy Perry has hit back at claims she made fun of knife crime.
The singer caused outrage last month when a photo of her brandishing a 3in flick-knife was posted online.
Katy insists she wasn't endorsing blades as 'cool' - the picture was taken long before the recent spate of stabbings in London.
‘The photo is 3-4 years old,’ she tells Now Online.
‘I never tried to hide anything. I’m a pop girl, I play music and I want to make people happy.
'When I saw the picture it hurt me, I knew it was a big deal especially for you guys. I feel really bad. It was just a misunderstanding.’
Katy, 24, later replaced the controversial image with one showing her waving a spoon in the air.
The caption reads: ‘But I do condone eating ice cream with a very large spoon.’
She is to host the MTV Awards in Liverpool tomorrow night.
