Singer avoids jail term
Wednesday, 22 October 2008
The judge in Britney Spears' driving case has declared a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict again.
The panel were divided 10-2 on Monday on whether the singer was guilty of being behind the wheel without the required California state licence during an accident in LA last year.
Britney, 26, insists her Louisiana licence was valid when she collided with a parked car and then reportedly left the scene.
The judge had told the jury to return for final deliberations yesterday, but when they still couldn’t agree on a verdict he declared the mistrial.
Prosecutors have not yet confirmed whether Britney, who could have faced 6 months in jail if convicted, will face a retrial, reports the BBC.
