TV host turned to alcohol after career took a nosedive
Friday, 24 October 2008
Jonathan Ross has admitted that in the past his work on ‘rubbish TV shows’ drove him to drink.
The 47-year-old presenter, telling all in his new autobiography, explains that during a brief period in his life he was happy to do anything to keep money rolling in.
‘I’d grown accustomed to having my face on the TV and the money that comes with it,’ he writes. ‘So I fronted different programmes, none of which really worked.
‘This unhappy and unproductive period inevitably led to depression. I was drinking too much and spending my earnings none too wisely.’
Jonathan found redemption with panel show They Think Its All Over, which led to his own chat show Friday Night With Jonathan Ross – for which he has an £18 million 3-year deal.
‘I stopped doing shows for no reason other than cash,’ he says. ‘I really learnt to trust my own judgement.’
