Who runs over one of Walford's most hated characters?

Max Branning – played by Jake Wood – has made plenty of enemies in EastEnders

EastEnders Max Branning is left for dead after being hit by a speeding car.

The character, played by Jake Wood, 36, is mown down in a hit-and-run after plotting to set up his brother Jack (Scott Maslen, 37) for attempted murder.

‘It's definitely a shocker,’ a source tells Digital Spy. ‘Max finally realises the trauma he's caused his family and goes to resolve his differences with wife Tanya.

‘He doesn't make it across the Square, though. Before he gets across the road, an unidentified driver knocks him down.’

The incident will spark a whodunnit in Albert Square with plenty of residents becoming suspects to newcomer DI Keeble (Footballers' Wives star Alison Newman, 40).  

‘Max has made enough enemies over the last year to last him a lifetime. So the big question will be, who tried to kill Max? Was it Bradley? Stacey? Tanya? Callum? Peter? The list could go on!’ the source adds.

Max’s wife Tanya (Jo Joyner, 30) buried her husband alive earlier this year, which makes her the prime suspect.

The episode will be shown on 30 October on BBC1.
